| Name: | Eleanor Magrain |

Name: Eleanor Magrain Age: 19 Social Class: Clergy Birthday: December 17th Blood Type: Family: Fredrick (36) | Rabecca (32) | Preferred Element: Earth and Water. Eleanor was born the daughter of a nobleman's hawker and his wife. It was hoped that she would be the first of many children; however the pregnancy had been particularly difficult for her mother and the midwife said it was unlikely her body would ever heal. In the beginning, Eleanor's father was only mildly annoyed by this fact, but he treated his daughter and wife with all the support and love expected of a husband and father. Then Eleanor's hair grew in. It was a bright auburn shade that announced for all the world to see that the child was not his. She was almost certainly the bastard child of the nobleman whom Eleanor's father served, who's insatiable lust was well-known to all. The change in the man after this revelation, as he could never take out his anger on his employer and lord was startling. He routinely began to savagely beat his wife as well as Eleanor when he wasn't outright ignoring her existence. Eleanor spent her young life taking care of and nursing her mother, as more often then not she was too weak and bruised to attend to the home, and hiding whenever her father came in for the night. As the years went by her mother became increasingly fearful for Eleanor's life. She convinced Eleanor to agree to enter the clergy at the young age of eight. After she had been accepted for training, her mother disappeared. Eleanor hasn't heard from her since. Eleanor had thought when she entered the clergy the worst in her life was over, but in the convent things did not turn out that way it all. It only bought a different sort of pain. The physical labor itself was grueling, but she vastly preferred it over the lessons of theology where her pointed questions were not appreciated and she was often accused of having too little faith to be a priestess. Eleanor wisely became quiet, for she feared being kicked out and having no place to go. She realized that in order to fit in, she had to act like how others wanted. After this revelation, she threw herself into her studies and duties. Gradually, her earlier "insolence" was forgotten and as she grew older, it was remarked that she was a model of a perfect priestess. Eleanor preferred it that way, and she played the role to the hilt developing this mask in order to be accepted and hide the depression she had struggling with for years. Depression that came from realizing she actually didn't believe in any sort of God. The duality of her life and her actual feelings made her feel sick at heart and the atmosphere in the convent grew increasingly oppressive for her. She was relived when she was inducted as a full priestess at fifteen and wasted no time leaving the convent to begin traveling with a jovial middle-aged priest as his apprentice, going from town to town to heal the sick and the injured. It was hard work, and Eleanor had to be careful not to slip in her mask of religious devotion, but gradually Eleanor realized she enjoyed actually doing something for the needy out in the world rather then being cloistered, having to be mindful of herself at all times. When traveling, she was actually more free to be herself. At seventeen, having been told by the priest she had learned all he could teach, they bid each other fond farewells and she began to travel Fairn on her own. On her nineteenth birthday, the Testers found her tending the sick along with several other clergy members in a village had recently been hit by plague. Annoyed, she nonetheless patiently let them do their work and was shocked when she was told she would report to Everthorne Academy for it's next term. Eleanor really has two sides to her personality. One of them is a mask that she wears that reflects what people usually imagine for a clergy priestess--A devoted, painfully polite, and pure young woman. She has gotten so much experience at wearing this mask when she was at the convent, she can switch to and wear it effortlessly. In truth, she has an impressive variety of oaths at her disposal and a shocking sense of humor which she almost always keeps to herself. She keeps a highly-sarcastic running commentary in her head about events and gives private nicknames to those she knows. But she isn't a hateful person: Eleanor is a friendly and loving young woman, determined to help others to the best of her ability. Inquisitive, she takes active interest in the lives of others, and enjoys learning a great deal. She is always looking for explanations about how the world functions. She lets varying amounts of this side of her filter through her "mask" as she judges safe. She has a very strong moral center, which she painstakingly developed as she wrestled with the question of what is right or wrong due to being an atheist. While she doesn't believe in divine retribution, she understands that there are certain moral precepts that need to be followed in order for society to function. She's also quite Spartan, and deplores waste, though she has a weakness for fine clothing and books. Despite enjoying the company of others, she has no true friends. Eleanor holds people at arm's length. She has a problem with trust and doesn't like getting close to people. One reason is that she is afraid that if a person gets too close, her greatest secret, which she has spent years hiding will be found out. She also fears that what people like about her is her "mask"; that nobody would ever like the real her. She doesn't want that kind of pain. Eleanor hates pain. Eleanor has auburn hair to her upper back and blue eyes. She's a good height and is surprisingly strong for a priestess due to the many tasks that come from tending the sick and traveling. Her hands are rough and calloused. She also has a few scars, the most prominent a line down her right forearm. Eleanor is actually quite pretty when she washes up, lets down her hair, and puts on the fine clothing as she now does for her term at the Academy.
